What Will The Children Be Like?

Every carer experience is different and this is largely dependent on the carer and the child in their care.

Children requiring foster care have usually experienced abuse, trauma or neglect and with this can come some significant challenges.

It is also important for foster carers to deal with their own feelings about the abuse or neglect the child or young person may have experienced in the care of their family of origin.

The impact that trauma, abuse or neglect can have on a child can be seen in their emotional maturity and development. The adjustment to living with a new family can at times bring about challenging behaviours in the child.

In the case of Intensive / Specialised  foster care, the children and young people have high complex needs such as challenging behaviours and or disabilities.

The Foundation Care caseworkers work with carers and children to to provide support and specialist treatment where necessary.
