Children and young people usually require foster care as a result of neglect, trauma or abuse. It is, however, important to keep in mind that the reasons for a child’s entry to care may not directly be the fault of the child’s parents or guardians either. Poor health, social isolation, disability and financial hardship can all be factors that can lead to a child requiring foster care.
Regardless of the reason, it is important to know that children in foster care are just like other children except that they are highly likely to have experienced some form of trauma as a result of abuse, neglect, extreme poverty, homelessness or family breakdown.
Many children and young people that come to us have complex needs as a result of challenging behaviours and/or disabilities.
We currently need foster carers in Perth, Northern NSW and Queensland.
